National Day of Prayer Labyrinth Experience will be presented at 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m. at 1000 Weller Circle Activity Center. Choose the time that best suits your schedule and celebrate National Day of Prayer by exploring the spiritual significance of labyrinths. Program presented by the CLV Chaplains and the Rev. James Stutler in the reading room side of the Weller Circle Activity Center. After the presentation, you may step outside to explore the Schwartz Labyrinth. Light refreshments will be served after each presentation in the game room side of the Weller Circle Activity Center. Event will be held rain or shine.

Project Venture Outing to Surreybrooke Nursery and Gardens in Middletown MD, followed by picnic lunch at Gambrill State Park. Visit to gardens will include 45 minute tour of gardens and historic outbuildings, with time to stroll and explore. Picnic at nearby Gambrill State Park with scenic overlooks of Frederick and Middletown. Hot dogs, water and cooler with ice will be provided. Feel free to bring side dish or dessert to share. Wellness Center. Strokes: Warning Signs & Risk Factors - Lutheran Home Care Services will honor National Stroke Awareness Month with an overview of the number one cause of adult disability. Strokes, or "brain attacks," are the third leading cause of death each year - but the good news is that 80% of strokes are preventable. We'll talk about the two types of strokes, ischemic and hemorrhagic, and discuss risk factors for both, including gender, age, race, and family history. We'll also discuss medical risk factors that can be controlled, such as high blood pressure, and lifestyle risk factors, including exercise and diet. We will teach you the simple test to detect stroke symptoms, called Act F.A.S.T., that may save a life

Take a Tour of Carroll County in a way that you haven’t experienced. Visit and learn about Hashawha Environmental Center, the Whitaker Chambers pumpkin farm which played a part in the WWII Alger Hiss treason trial, the site for the Union Mills Reservoir, the birthplace of Francis Scott Key, the Strawbridge Methodist Shrine, the Piney Run Lake in South Carroll, the beautiful farm country of Carroll County and much more. CLV resident Bob Jones, long-time county agricultural agent will be our tour guide. This will be a riding tour with very little walking, ample restroom breaks, and of course – a stop for lunch. Transportation will be provided on comfortable charter motor coach, and lunch will be at the New Windsor Conference Center. Lunch buffet will include soup, salad, hot entrée and vegetables, dessert and beverage. Cost is $26.50, which includes tour, lunch, transportation, and gratuity. Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre presents Guys and Dolls on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. This is a story of small time gamblers and the ladies in their lives. Desperate to find money to pay for his floating crap game, Nathan Detroit bets slick, high-rolling gambler Sky Masterson a thousand dollars that he can’t make the next lady he sees fall in love with him. Along comes the prim and proper Salvation Army girl, Sarah Brown and the betting on love begins. The show is full of bright and sassy songs like Luck Be a Lady, If I Were a Bell, I’ll Know and Sit down You’re Rockin’ the Boat, taking us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana. Attention all CLV Men: Mark your calendar for Tuesday, May 6, 2008, for a visit to the Wessell Farm in Hampstead. Herb Wessell describes his farm as a “retirement village for aged, used, and abused farm equipment, tools, cars, and trucks.” The collection consists of vehicles, equipment, and tools that would have been used on Maryland farms in the early to middle 1900’s. Some has been restored, or some refurbished. Most of the equipment is J. I. Case. The cars date from 1912 to 1966, and include a Ford Model T. The trucks are from 1918 to 1970. The tractor collection includes steam engines and tractors from 1912 to 1966. Mr. Wessell also builds scale models of historic aircraft and has models dating from the Wright Brothers flyer to a WWII B24. Family style lunch at Friendly Farms in Upperco follows the tour. Cost is $30.00 and includes transportation on charter school bus, driver gratuity, and family-style all inclusive lunch. Tour is free. Attention computer users! Computer Classes to continue at Carroll Community College. Introduction to Computers: Intermediate begins Thursday, May 1 and continues each Thursday through June 12 (no class May 8) for 6 sessions 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the college. Transportation will be provided. Not so afraid of the computer anymore but would like to know more? This class is for the slightly advanced beginner. Learn how to make a shortcut on your desktop and fin a missing file. Type a letter and transfer it to an e-mail attachment. Find out how to create yard sale signs or what you can do to jazz up a written document. Create an inventory for your stuff. In a small group setting you can take the next step in handling your computer. Prerequisites: basic computer skills and being able to use a mouse and keyboard. Instructor will be Linda Nestor.
